Sometimes it’s good to be at the center of things. Sometimes not so much.
With COVID, I’m at the center of danger. COVID uses old people for target practice.
When we first began to be aware of the pandemic, I called my son. We were supposed to visit him and his family in early April. I called to say that I didn’t know if we’d be able to come.
My son said, “Well, mostly the virus is a problem for old people.”
“Whom do you think you’re talking to?” I asked.
My son may not think of me as “old” – which I appreciate. But COVID does—I’m in danger because of my age. The world is beginning to open up—restaurants and stores, parks and beaches… But I’m not going anywhere. Not until there’s a vaccine or a treatment or some kind of assurance. Not until I don’t think of myself as a bullseye.
